Designing Your Seminar Event: Your OUTLINE is the KEY
In order to have a great seminar or other event you need to START with a great outline. That is your key to making the content of your event work.
Here is what I do.
I take out a bunch of 3X5 index cards and write down everything I can think of which relates to the topic I’ll be teaching.
I do NOT try and put anything in any kind of order for now. I suggest you follow my lead.
Don’t worry if you duplicate cards, you can toss them out later when you’re done.
After you’ve exhausted your mind coming up with every possible topic, THEN start taking the cards and putting them in piles based on what makes sense to go together.
Let’s say that you came up with a total of 200 cards (Don’t worry if you have less or more, this is strictly for example purposes). You then take those 200 cards and put them into 20 piles. Again for example sake, I’m making the numbers very even.
Let’s say that you now have 20 piles with 10 cards in each stack. Look through those cards and decide what is the MAIN TOPIC of those cards. Then put choose that card and put it on the top of that pile.
After doing that, put each of the cards in that pile and put them in the “proper” order. An order that would make SENSE if you were teaching it.
Start with what should logically come first and go from there.
After you’re done, you’ll have 20 piles of 10 cards each. Each one of those piles should have the cards stacked in logical order. Now, decide which of the piles should go in which order. Which one should come first? Which one next? And so on.
You now have the OUTLINE for your event.
